Introducing the new Panasonic 50-inch TH-50PX77U diagonal 720p Plasma HDTV. I call it Panasonic's "black beauty" with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, QAM cable TV tuner, and 2 HDMI inputs which accept signals up to 1080p. This Panasonic HDTV almost breaks the $1500.00 barrier with current prices running less than $1700.00. Of course, the price could change before you finish reading this review.
Resolution. With a native resolution of 1366 x 768, this Panasonic HDTV matches the revolution of just about every 50-inch plasma out there. I'm sure you're aware that some newer plasmas have displays of 1080p; However, according to CNET, it doesn't make much difference at this screen size. Remote. Like most TVs these days, the remote is universal and can control up to three devices other than the TV. The buttons are not illuminated, but they are large and well organized. There is no direct-access input button which is common on Panasonic remotes. The call up the menu of inputs by pressing the TV/Video button. Sound. Stereo speakers are well hidden, thin strips on either side of the TV. Features. One of the best features of this and other Plasmas is the built-in GalleryPlayer capable SD memory-card slot. The SD slot is the same used by Panasonic's digital cameras. You can use it to view and share with friends and family. GalleryPlayer offers preloaded cards with fine art and photography. This Panasonic HDTV menu system is well-designed with the exception of the picture controls which are two levels deep and don't drop to the bottom of the screen when you're making adjustments. Connectivity (connections located in the back). - Audio line-in, Audio line-out
- 2 HDMI inputs ( 19 pin Type A ) in the back
- Composite video output
- Component video input
- 2 x audio line-in ( RCA phono )

HDTV ratings and reviews. The Perfect Vision magazine gives the Panasonic TH-50PX77U HDTV an overall rating of 7 out of 10. The highlight of this TV is the ability to render rich, deep blacks - a very good indication of picture quality. When dark areas are a true black instead of the usual dark grey, colors tend to pop right off the screen. Colors and texture a vivid and sharp. The internal video processor, however, showed some distortion on slow moving scenes. Strong greens and reds can be somewhat exaggerated. Overall, the picture quality of this plasma TV is very good and is worthy of serious consideration.
