Honeywell HDMI converterSo, you have those coax cables (a.k.a. Category cables) running to virtually every room in your house. Wouldn't it be great if you could take full advantage of them and send High-Definition audio and video signals from any component to any room in the house?  Well, you will have those options very soon.

Let's say you an HD-DVD player in one room and you want to watch the movies on your HDTV in another room. Normally, you would have to buy HDMI cable and figure out how and where to run it to the other room, or purchase an additional player. Of course, there are any number of reasons why you may want to transmit High-Def. signals from one room to another.  It only makes since to use the cables already installed in most homes, but those cables are not capable of transmitting HDMI signals. Finally, one company has the solution.

Honeywell has announced that it will begin shipping it's new HDMI to Cat5/6 converters by mid December. These converters will convert any source HDMI signal to 1080p then convert it back to HDMI at the display end.

HDMI Converter

The 1080p signal can travel up to 125 feet across a pair of Cat5 cables or up to 200 feet on a pair of Cat6 cables. The converter supports all formats and revolutions including HDMI, HDTV, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. It is also fully compatible with DVI, and supports VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA and UXGA computer resolutions.

You can also count on this HDMI converter to automatically correct any corrupted data and it verifies compliance with Hot Plug Detect, 5V, EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) and HDCP (High Definition Copy Protocol). The converter is completely versatile and can be used with most devices using HDMI outputs, including cable, satellite and OTA receivers, high- definition TiVo®, Xbox360® and PS3®, Apple TV®, PC video cards and HD-DVD® and Blu-Ray® players.

Not only is this great news for homeowners, but it will, most likely, be used by schools and businesses.

The Honeywell HDMI converter is due to ship in mid-December. You can pick it up from any Honeywell dealer, but pricing information is not yet available. Call you local A/V installer for more information.
